Modular noise protection for large Heat PumpsThe definition of what a large heat pump is is not precise, so in residential construction heating outputs of 50-100kW are already referred to as large heat pumps, in commercial applications outputs from 200kW and in industrial applications from 1MW are referred to as large heat pumps.

Noise emissions from large Heat PumpsLarge heat pumps are particularly suitable for use in industry, in municipal infrastructure or in large residential, commercial and commercial buildings.
While heat pumps for use in private residential and commercial buildings are now standard heating technology and the use of condensing technology is increasingly being pushed back, there is still great potential in the broad market launch of large heat pumps and industrial heat pumps in the power range from 200 kW to > 1,000 kW. The use of these systems, which are usually equipped with multiple compressors and fans and move large volumes of air, encounter the residents' need for quiet in the dense construction in cities. Due to the modular design of our acoustic hoods, individual modules can be built into complex overall solutions for accommodating individual systems or system combinations with attachments, for example for the piping and/or for the entire electrical system. |
Modular structure of our acoustic hoods |
The basic structure of the sound hood consists of individual modules made of aluminum plug-in profile frames. In the example below, 4 individual modules were connected on site to form a sound hood.
The air inlet openings and air outlet openings and the service doors around the system are integrated into the profile frames. The service doors are based on aluminum panels with a thickness of 1.5 mm with internal 40 mm thick Stratocell® Whisper insulation.
The sound hood example shown below for 2 sound hoods mounted one behind the other consists of 4 modules which, when assembled, result in the following dimensions: 13,600 x 3,400 x 3,222 mm (L x W x H) with a weight of 2,322 kg.
The free surfaces of the air inlet and outlet openings are designed for an air volume of 650,000 m3/h. The air flow is laterally offset so that no air short circuit can occur between the exhaust air and supply air. The air inlet is on the left or right on the narrow side of the hood, the air outlet on the long sides at the top.
With the air deflection by 90°, the airborne noise is broken and the air outlet speed is reduced to around 1.99 m/sec, which leads to a significant reduction in outlet noise.
The acoustic hoods have no bottom and are placed directly on a foundation to be created on site and are built around the systems including the substructures of the systems and the condensate and oil protection pans.

The size of the individual modules can be designed differently, depending on the required overall size of the acoustic hood.
The size in turn depends on the required air volume in m3/h of the system in order to guarantee sufficient free air surfaces for unhindered air circulation. Furthermore, the free space required for service and maintenance work determines the dimensions that can go up to the point where the sound hood can be designed as an accessible machine room. As with any acoustic hood, an all-important factor is the separation of the air chambers to avoid an air short circuit. |
Application
Our SilentMode-CM are suitable for large heat pumps and refrigeration systems with vertical and combined airflow and are manufactured independently of the manufacturer. Among other things, we supply acoustic hoods for systems from the following brands and manufacturers: CARRIER, TRANE, AERMEC, VIESSMANN, OCHSNER, ENGIE, SWEGON, OLION, JOHNSON CONTROLS etc.. Modular acoustic enclosures and rental systems |
The use of our sound hood modules in rental heating and cooling systems has the advantage that the temporarily set up systems can easily be retrofitted with noise protection, which can be easily enlarged or reduced depending on the project constellation - this is pure investment protection and thus also guarantees rapid readiness for delivery . Examples of use:
Conversions / major events / ice rinks / heating of sports fields The fact that these can also be used as temporary advertising space is a positive side effect. |
Acoustic enclosure Inside insulation |
All service doors are equipped with internal sound insulation. We use "StratocallWhisper FR" with a thickness of 40 mm because of its excellent soundproofing properties over a wide frequency range.
Stratocell®Whisper® is a range of closed-cell, semi-rigid and sound absorbing polyethylene foam sheets. The sound-absorbing properties of this foam make it one of the most innovative materials for sound control in industry and construction. Thanks to the numerous certifications, the panels can be used in the following sectors: construction, industry, rolling stock, automotive, electronics, naval, ducting and air conditioning. Since the material is water-resistant, it can also be used in humid environments. The closed-cell structure, the high degree of sound insulation, the resistance to water and moisture, the self-supporting structure and the specific certifications give this innovative product unique features that pay off in full when used in our acoustic hoods. |
